A bridge is a link or connection between two objects - usually places either side of an obstacle, such as a river. Some of the benefits of a bridge are that supplies of food and traded goods can get across that obstacle or through difficult terrain in a shorter time.
There are different types of bridges. The arch bridge, one of the oldest types of bridges. The beam bridge, the simplest and most inexpensive kind of bridge. The suspension bridge, for the longest span distances. And the cable-stayed bridge, similar to suspension bridges but supports the load in a different way.
The bridge I have selected for my project is one I have been in many times; theAngostura Bridge. It’s located over the Orinoco River in Guayana region, Venezuela and connects Bolivar state with Anzoátegui state. It was design by the engineer Paul Lustgarten and constructed by American Bridge Company and Precomprimido C.A. in 1967.
This bridge is a suspension bridge constituted by a frame of steel with 1.678 meters long and 14,6 meters wide for four car canals. It has 2 towers that are 119 meters tall each and support all the cables.
By the time it was build, it was the ninth longest suspension bridge of the world and first in Latin America. That bridge meant for the Venezuelan people the union of Bolivar state with the rest of the country, a moment very important in our history.
